Part three of my the Cowboys 2012 draft needs is…..
Offensive Line: CENTER
The Cowboys offensive line overall was average at best.
Grant it we released a lot of veteran offensive line in favor of Jason Garrett’s youth movement. I still think it was the right move, our offensive line at the time was old and slow constantly getting beat off the edge by athletic defensive tackles and ends.
While last years offensive line was quicker and more athletic however they seemed to get beat at the point of attack and over powered at times. Let’s break down the offensive line positions.
Center: Phil Costa, Kevin Kowalski
Costa was over matched most of the time at center last year. Kowalski showed flashes at times. He is an upgrade from Costa which isn’t saying much. Center is a position we must upgrade in this draft. Grade:D
Guards: David Arkin, Bill Nagy, Mackenzy Bernadeau (FA), and Nate Livings (FA). Grade:C
Tackles: Tyron Smith, Doug Free, Jermey Parnell
Tyron was the lone bright spot on the offensive line last year. The ninth overall draft pick showed why the Cowboys selected Smith so high. Doug Free took a step back last year but with the move back to right tackle this might be the boost Free needs to get his game back in order with Smith and Free at the tackle position the Cowboys should be set for the next four years.
Jermey Parnell is a raw talent but is only here for depth purposes nothing more nothing less. Grade:B
