Dallas Cowboys Pre Season Game 1- Things to watch for

Howdy ya’ll!!

What a crazy off season it has been for the Dallas Cowboys and their fans! Forget everyone else but we certainly did a lot of work to discuss needs and came out looking pretty good.

The only big question that remains, the elephant in the room … is how will we be at Running Back?

Well we won’t find out much to answer that question in the first preseason game against the Chargers as the top three running backs will not be playing.

We will get to look at the kid from Stephen F. Austin university Gus Johnson who is a “bowling ball” type of runner as insider Mike Fisher describes him.

This is a guy that could break out of his shell and show some really special things or he could crash and burn and be lucky to even make the practice squad. He will get a good amount carries tonight so lets watch and see if he can produce anything worth while.

I am very excited to see what our starters on defense can do , we know Greg Hardy is planning to “ease” his way back into football so who knows how many plays he will get in but it’ll be interesting to see how this D-Line upgrade has worked out for us.

I’m also very interested to see what Byron Jones has in store for us , if the D-Line can hold up to make our D-Backs look better we could see some special moments throughout the entire defense.

A player that has got a lot of attention is rookie WR Lucky Whitehead, the staff and writers have been all over this kid and they believe he can be a very special player .. we have a solid number of young rookies and he could be the standout among them all but Randy Gregory , La’el Collins and Byron Jones may have something to say to that.

This first preseason game is not about the score board, technically. There will be game time situations that cause the score board to become important but we want to see the talent on the field and what can happen, don’t get butt-hurt if the Cowboys lose but we want to come away feeling confident in the additions and off-season work that this entire staff and team has put in.

Don’t forget, after last years first preseason game those crazies at ESPN were calling the Cowboys the  worst team in the NFC.

We also didn’t win a preseason game last year and still did pretty well.  I’ve been waiting for this since Dez caught it, and it’s here.

Take it, leave it… or throw it back at me.

My Two Cents: The Training Camp Fight….

My two cents……..

A few of my followers on Twitter yesterday what did I think about the Dez Bryant and Tyler Patmon training camp “fight”.

Look things like this happen at every training camp every year. This is a non issue and it was just two teammates who’s competitive nature got the better of them.

The two hugged it out afterward and kept it moving. I know all the other national media outlets will make it bigger than what it was but hey it is the Dallas Cowboys. Everything we do makes the news wire. I can’t wait for this season to start!!!!

Go Cowboys

The No Fun League Strikes Again

The NFL canceled the National Fantasy Football Convention headed by Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo. Tony broke the news to his fans via his Twitter account.

Romo’s teammate Dez Bryant wasn’t to pleased with the NFL’s decision to pull the plug on the convention and had this to say via his Twitter account.

June is among us, and Brandon Carr is still here.

A man who fans probably do not have the right amount of respect for is Brandon Carr. At the end of the 2014/2015 season he started playing lights out. No, he has not played to the level of the salary he has made, but he has been solid over the past few years we’ve had him and gets way too much heat than he deserves.

In fact, Carr leads the Cowboys defense in snaps played for 3 straight years. His 3,219 snaps is 877 more than the next guy. He has been consistent in my opinion, and if you want to run him out of Dallas you might want to stop and ask yourself why. If the Cowboys were in a salary cringe, then maybe the front office would have asked him to take a pay cut, instead of being a June 1st cut.

A reporter asked Carr earlier today: “Have the Cowboys talked to you about your contract?”  And Carr replied “You talk to me more about it than they do.” So ultimately thus far, it seems Carr is the ultimate winner this offseason, keeping all his money, unless something unexpected happens. Carr has also talked about being a mentor to Byron Jones, the Cowboys athletic number one overall pick who shows alot of versatility and could probably line up at safety if he was asked to.

That is ultimately a win/win for the Cowboys.

Drafting Byron Jones number one Overall and adding Corey White this offseason as insurance, along with Morris Claiborne’s recovery, and Scandrick’s break out year, and a young Tyler Patmon who has shown alot of upside, you can guarantee that will motivate Carr to prove everyone wrong and boost his confidence.

Overall, the secondary has been somewhat of a weak spot for the Cowboys looking at all the earlier years, but a good pass rush and alot of competition at the position will bring a spark to the club and make it a fun battle and make everyone better.
