Tampa Bay signs Cowboys WR Kevin Ogletree

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have signed free agent receiver Kevin Ogletree.

A backup most of his career with the Dallas Cowboys for four seasons, Ogletree played in 46 games and with a career total of 57 catches for 730 yards and four touchdowns.

Ogletree’s break out game was against division rival the New York Giants where he caught eight passes for 114 yards and two touchdowns in the 2012 Cowboys’ season opening victory.

This will be the second player the Cowboys have lost in free agency this year.

Looking ahead: Dallas Cowboys free agents

The Dallas Cowboys are officially out of the playoff picture now with the heart breaking loss to arch rival the Washington Redskins 28-18 at FedEx Field.  This will be the third straight season that the Cowboys will miss the post season.
Next year the projected salary cap will be at $121 million for 2013 that would put the Dallas Cowboys $20 million  over the cap with only 44 players under contract.  The Cowboys front office can create some cap room by cutting a few players, restructuring contracts, and extending quarterback Tony Romo current contract.
Cowboys will have 18 free agents this season and with the current cap situation it will be difficult to keep most of the players and this list. The most noticeable free agent on the list is outside linebacker Anthony Spencer. Will the Cowboys be able to sign him or will they let him walk?

Star Struck: Cowboys win 24-17

What a way to kickoff to the 2012 NFL season with an intense NFC East rivalry. The Dallas Cowboys (1-0) marched into MetLife stadium and silence the reigning Super Bowl Champions the New York Giants with a 24-17 statement win.

Cowboys QB Tony Romo completed 22 of 29 passes for 307 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. Romo had a quarterback rating of 129.5 for the game. The surprise of the night was Kevin Ogletree’s coming out party. Ogletree finished the with a career high eight catches for 114 yards and two touchdowns.

The improved Dallas Cowboys defense showed why they could be a force to be reckoned with this year. The Cowboys defense led by outside linebacker DeMarcus Ware two sacks (101.5 of his career), and solid coverage by cornerbacks Brandon Carr and Cowboys rookie Morris Claiborne kept Giants receivers Victor Cruz and Hakeem Nicks in check.

53-man Roster Projection Pt.2

As the Cowboys preseason comes to the end tonight at Cowboys Stadium. The time has come for the Cowboys coaching staff to make some hard decisions on who to keep and let go. August 31st is the deadline for all NFL teams to cut their roster down to 53 players.

Here is my predictions on who will make the Cowboys 53 man roster.

QUARTERBACKS (2) Tony Romo and Kyle Orton. Garrett wants to carry a 3rd quarterback on the roster because he values the position so much but Jerry has openly stated that he doesn’t see the team carrying more than two.

RUNNING BACKS (3) DeMarco Murray, Felix Jones, and Phillip Tanner.

FULLBACKS (1) Lawrence Vickers

TIGHT ENDS (4) Jason Witten, John Phillips, Andrew Szczerba, and James Hanna. With Witten status for the season opener still up in the air I think the Cowboys will keep four tight ends to start the season.

WIDE RECEIVERS (6) Miles Austin, Dez Bryant, Dwayne Harris, Cole Beasley, Kevin Ogletree, and Andre Holmes. The receiver position was one of the Cowboys biggest question marks this team had besides the offensive line at the start of training camp. With emergence of this young Cowboys receiving core of Cole Beasley, Dwayne Harris, and Kevin Ogletree in the past couple of preseason games they are slowly turning doubters into believers.

OFFENSIVE LINEMEN (9) Tyron Smith, Doug Free, Nate Livings, Mackenzy Bernadeau, Phil Costa, David Arkin, Jermey Parnell, Ronald Leary, and Pat McQuistan.

DEFENSIVE LINEMEN (7) Jay Ratliff, Jason Hatcher, Sean Lissemore, Marcus Spears, Tyrone Crawford, Josh Brent, and Clifton Geathers.

INSIDE LINEBACKERS (4) Sean Lee, Dan Connor, Bruce Carter, and Orie Lemon.

OUTSIDE LINEBACKERS (5) DeMarcus Ware, Anthony Spencer, Victor Butler, Kyle Wilber, and Alex Albright. Hamilton has impress me every time I saw him on the field. With that being said I don’t think Hamilton will make the final player roster. Hopefully the Cowboys can sneak him through on waivers but he has too much upside for any of the other NFL teams to pass up.

CORNERBACKS (5) Brandon Carr, Morris Claiborne, Mike Jenkins, Orlando Scandrick, and Mario Butler.

SAFETIES (4) Gerald Sensabaugh, Barry Church, Danny McCray, and Mana Silva. The injury to Matt Johnson in last weeks pre season game against the Rams pretty much sealed his fate on making this team but I believe the Cowboys will place him on IR and try to get him on the practice squad.

SPECIALISTS (3) Dan Bailey, Chris Jones, and LP Ladouceuer.
